So Kentucky is now 5-0, has a legitimate Heisman trophy candidate and is up to Number 8 in the latest college football polls. Number 8! That’s in the Top 10 for those of you that are mathmatically challenged. The last time that happened? 1977. We play South Carolina (# 11) this Thursday night and then Florida (#9) and LSU (#1) come to town. If we can go 2-1 in this stretch, it would be outstanding. Go ‘Cats.
It’s also the first day of October and that means baseball playoffs are here. The fun starts today with a one-game playoff for between the Colorado Rockies and San Diego Padres for the National League Wildcard spot. The winner will play the Chicago Cubs (Cubs should win because my brother and brother-in-law will both be rooting for them). In the American League, the Indians will take on the Yankees this week and have a great shot at advancing (the entire Mahl family will be rooting for the Indians, especially Grandma Mahl, who will most likely tape the games and then watch them again later that night).
Fall is in the air — there’s nothing quite like playoff baseball when the stadium is packed and rocking, every at-bat is high stakes and the unexpected often happens. Gotta love it.
