What the World Eats

Time Magazine is running a fascinating photo essay called What the World Eats. Shows photos of families and their food for one week stacked all around them. Also gives info on how much they spend and what their favorite foods are. You’ll be surprised at how much people spend — and how little some families can get by on. Check ou the differences in the kinds of food too — packaged vs. fresh, etc. The photos are part of a photography book called Hungry Planet by Peter Menzel and Faith D’Alusio that takes a look at families and their weekly eating habits around the world. Fascinating. You could stare at these photos all day. Here’s a family in Egypt:

Egypt: The Ahmed family of Cairo
Food expenditure for one week: 387.85 Egyptian Pounds or $68.53
Family recipe: Okra and mutton

And one from Mexico:

Mexico: The Casales family of Cuernavaca
Food expenditure for one week: 1,862.78 Mexican Pesos or $189.09
Favorite foods: pizza, crab, pasta, chicken

Check out the whole thing.
